For some years now, AdeptiCon, held in March each year near Chicago, has been one of the highlights of the Warhammer calendar. This massive convention plays host to some of the hobby’s biggest tournaments and campaign days.
The crowning glory of this convention has long been the Warhammer 40,000 Team Tournament, the largest Warhammer tournament anywhere in the world, where over a hundred teams and hundreds of players compete at every aspect of the hobby, from hard-fought battles to incredible army displays. We’re still a good few months away from this event right now, but the team behind it is already hard at work on making this year’s the biggest and best event yet.
Several of the organisers of AdeptiCon’s hugely successful team tournaments are involved in the playtesting for Warhammer 40,000. These guys have been thinking, even before the latest edition came out, how to port the game into the unique 4-player system of the team tournament, which is quite unlike the traditional matched play game you find at Grand Tournaments.

“Without a doubt, this is the most exciting time to be playing Warhammer 40,000. Primarchs stalk the table tops, games are fast and furious, and like never before, the grimdark is bringing the action to tabletops across the world.
The Adepticon Warhammer 40,000 staff have been preparing our slate of event offerings for the 2018 convention, and it has been easier than past years as most of our events port directly into the core rules presented in the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook.
The unique way team members are paired together in games does require a few small tweaks to accommodate the tournament mechanics. We have worked to keep the long-standing traditions of the team tournament, and part of its character is designing thematic lists in a constrained format that function well together in multiple pairing combinations. We will feature that mechanic again as we bring the team tournament in line with the new edition. To facilitate this, we have created unique team tournament detachments specific to the requirements of the event. These detachments, when paired together, mimic the standard detachments available to a player in a standard game of Warhammer 40,000.
This event is going to be a blast, and we are looking forward to seeing all the great armies, friendly faces and legions of miniatures in March! “
